About
I’m Gabriel. I love tech, food, and travel.
Tech
For as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in tech. My dad is an engineer, and growing up, there were always computers and computer parts around the house.
While still in elementary school, I discovered a tech tutorial website. I used it to install and learn about Linux on the family’s computer. (This was back in the days of the big beige boxes and CD players.) I taught myself C programming. I built my first computer using spare parts my Dad had lying around from upgrading his computers over the years. I became interested in robotics and built and programmed my first robot.
Throughout the following years, I continued my learning journey. I learned more coding (HTML, CSS, Javascript). My biggest breakthrough came after learning Python and discovering APIs. All of a sudden, it felt like I could build anything.
My first few projects were quite simple. The early ones did things like checking the weather and sending me a text message to remind me to bring a rain jacket if rain was on the forecast. (I was constantly getting caught by surprise by the rain.)
At University, I studied Data Analytics and learned to use libraries like Pandas, sk-learn, and other machine-learning libraries. I started to build more useful things. As a music lover who enjoys a really wide range of genres, I became frustrated when playing my Spotify saved songs on shuffle and the music would jump from a classical song to a hip-hop song. I built a script that would go through my Spotify Library and organize my songs into more cohesive playlists.
As I graduated and moved on into the workforce, I began building scripts to automate my work. In one of my first jobs, I was helping with Jira administration tasks. I built a script to automate tasks like creating a new project and assigning users. As I moved on to project management, I built scripts to alert me based on certain conditions so that I could respond to customers quicker, and automate the creation of reports.
To this day, I find tech fascinating. I’m especially interested in tech that makes a positive difference in the world. Climate Tech, Health Tech, and Logistics are three areas I find particularly interesting. Every once in a while, I share my thoughts on interesting articles and tech issues on this blog.
Travel
In 2023 I became a digital nomad, working remotely from various places in Mexico. Traveling has not only introduced me to incredible people but has also shifted my perspective on what truly matters in life.
In early 2024, I sold my car and rented out my condo in Montreal, becoming a true nomad. This has been one of the best decisions I have ever taken, offering me the freedom to explore new places and cultures on a whim.
Follow along as I share my travel adventures, tips, and reflections.
Food
As a kid, I was a very picky eater. However, as I grew up, I started to enjoy the joys of food, and I now consider myself a foodie.
Food is now a central theme in my life. I’m almost always thinking about my next meal. I love big family dinners and shared meals with friends. I even go as far as often picking my travel destinations based on the local cuisine.
Being constantly traveling also means I’m constantly trying new food and new restaurants. I enjoy writing about my experiences, so stay tuned for mouthwatering restaurant reviews, food adventures, and my favorite recipes coming soon to this blog!
